By the end of 2022, HCC lost almost two-thirds of its foster volunteers. Some moved, others took time-consuming jobs or went from living in a house to a too-small apartment. Although there are never enough fosters available compared to the number of kittens who need our help, we now have fewer fosters than ever in recent history. Meantime, the kittens are coming.
HCC is a Trap/Neuter/Return organization, not a rescue. Nevertheless, when we trap community cats for spay/neuter, we inevitably end up trapping kittens as well. These kittens, more than the older cats, are subject to predation, starvation, and disease. HCC fosters can socialize them, take care of their injuries or disease, and find them loving homes. Without enough fosters, most will simply be released after trapping and likely will die in difficult and painful circumstances.
If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now would be a great time. HCC supplies food, litter, bedding, carriers, etc. and will teach you all you need to know. We have dedicated vets to spay or neuter and treat illness as necessary. When a kitten is ill, the going can get a bit tough. However, you won’t be alone; experienced fosters are on hand to guide you. And when a sick kitten is well again and looks at you with love, it’s all worth it! If fostering interests you, please call HCC today at 830-598-9883 and leave a message.
